Journey Book Campaign: Schedule for April 4th-30th
Schedule for April 4th-30th

Many fans have requested that we write to fewer people due to the high cost and time consumption of sending so many letters, so to appease the needs of the fanbase the JBC team has decided that this month we'll try contacting select individuals, those who are the most likely to yield results.

Noteworthy Campaigns

  • SaveOurSeeker.com: More than $35,000 raised in support of the series.
  • Three ads (1, 2) in major entertainment publications (Variety, THR x2)
  • Bus Shelter ad
  • Hundreds of DVDs donated to public libraries in the US - with support from Terry Goodkind, Craig Horner, and Bridget Regan
  • Campaigning at fan conventions (several thousand iTunes downloads and poster giveaways, fan panels, costume parade, etc) - Dragon Con [photos here], RingCon [photos here] and ROMICS [photos here throughout the forum thread and videos here]; NYCC photos are posted on the NYCC thread, and NYCC newsletter that went out to 25,000 people with a banner ad sponsored by the fans [screenshot here].
  • International fan videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/LOTSvideo
  • Facebook banner ad.
  • Google Ads here. Note: If you come across these ads please do not click on them. Doing so will needlessly charge the SOS campaign, as they are designed to both bring new fans to the series and bring other fans into the campaign.

  • WonderCon 2011 photos here. NEW

And always remember...
  • Your letter can simply be a brief note, so long as it is clear you want more Legend of the Seeker. ;)
  • Postcards are both cheap and very effective.
  • Be polite in your letters. The person who will read them didn't cancel our show, so we shouldn't treat them as if they did.
  • If possible, try to argue that Legend of the Seeker would greatly benefit all parties involved in its resurrection. State that even with poor time slots, lack of promotion and erratic airing schedules, the series still managed to gain millions of dedicated followers. If given a chance, it could be one of the most popular shows currently on television!

  • To request re-runs when we contact the networks.

Week of April 10th

"National Library Week" in the US: Fans located in the US should check out the catalog of their local library and ask if their library could accept donated LotS DVDs if they don't have them already. Once their library accepts our donation, fans need to email 1. the name, 2. contact person & 3. address of the libraries that want the DVDs, so sos.com can fulfill the requests. It's very important to have a contact person and we won't mail DVDs without it. Please see the standard email the SOS team sends to libraries here.

Fans outside the US can politely email Geoff Boucher, a sci-fi blogger at the LA Times asking him to write about the SOS campaign. They should also include this Press One-Pager which has been reviewed by Karen, the SOS.com PR guru.

Send him pics with fans and fan table at WonderCon. Photos to be posted daily on the forum thread. Please be sure you don't send an email with attachments so he doesn't confuse the message as spam/malware.

Everyone on April 13th starting at 12 noon PDT / 3pm EDT, please tweet about the DVD donations. The goal is NOT to trend LOTS or SOS, but to call attention to the DVD donations, in the hope that we'll end up on the ALA newsletter, or something like that. ALA has even created a hashtag for National Library Week: #nlw11, which we should include. Use Twaiter to schedule tweets in advance. Some effective tweets could be:

"Libraries love Legend of the Seeker" #nlw11
"My library has [insert number] holds on the Legend of the Seeker DVDs" #nlw11
"My library owns [insert number] Legend of the Seeker DVDs they own" #nlw11
"I donated [insert number] Legend of the Seeker DVD sets on behalf of SaveOurSeeker" #nlw11
"SaveOurSeeker has donated over 200 Season 1 Legend of the Seeker DVDs to US libraries" #nlw11
"SaveOurSeeker has donated over 100 Season 2 Legend of the Seeker DVDs to US libraries" #nlw11
"Legend of the Seeker fans love libraries" #nlw11

Library Email

Could you please let me know if your library can accept DVD donations? If so, are donations incorporated into your collection, or are they sold?

We'd like to donate a brand new DVD set of "Legend of the Seeker" season 1 + season 2 since you don't carry them at this time.

"Legend of the Seeker" is a fantasy show produced by Disney-ABC and is loosely based on the best selling series "The Sword of Truth" by Terry Goodkind. If your patrons are familiar with "Lord of the Rings," they'll love "Legend of the Seeker."

If you can accept our donation and add the DVDs to your catalog, could you please let me know if I should send the DVDs to someone's attention, and also what address to use? The donation will be on behalf of the "Legend of the Seeker" fans that have organized a campaign, Save Our Seeker, to support a third season for this show. To date, our fan association has donated over 200 Season 1 sets, and 106 Season 2 set.

Thank you in advance for your attention.

Best regards,

[your name]
