the journey book campaign: week 1  
So, visionhale  and I have been talking, and people seemed responsive to the contacting the TV Stations idea (for more information, please see the original post here), so we have got a schedule drawn up for you guys for all of week one.  If a whole week of emailing sounds like a lot of work to you, I promise, it's not.  The hard work is already done.  There's now three handy form letters available to guide you in this process, and it shouldn't take more than five minutes tops to send off a few emails each day. 

THE GREAT EMAILING AND LETTER WRITING SAVE OUR SEEKER CAMPAIGN

Now that SyFy decided to pass on securing our undying love and eternal devotion, there's no telling who might pick up Legend of the Seeker.  So this campaign is going to cast as wide a net as possible, going after everything from cable networks to the Top 100 in the Digital Syndicate Network, but all in handy, bite size pieces.

We have one specific request to these stations; that they pledge their willingness to listen to a pitch from ABC-Disney about Legend of the Seeker.  We're not asking them to buy LOTS, that's between them and ABC-Disney.  We're just asking them to listen.  And then inviting them to email us at saveourseekerpledge@gmail.com if they want to pledge their willingness to do so.  We are of course encouraging them to contact ABC-Disney about the show too.  There are three form letters available at the bottom of the post to guide you in doing this.  Once you have crafted your letter, please then save it to your computer.  You will be able to use the same letter to reach out to all the various companies contacted by this campaign, so it's worth your time to make sure it's a good, meaningful letter!

IMPORTANT!  UPDATED INFORMATION HERE:  Our goal here is not to spam people or companies or flood or crash their servers.  It has come to our attention that to plan to do so is illegal.   And Seeker fans are polite and awesome and not about breaking the law.  Because of this, there is now no official start or end time set for each day.  The point of this campaign is to increase our effectiveness by directing fans towards possible networks to contact, and to give a suggested schedule to make the task of reaching out to these companies less daunting

Please write your own letter if at all possible.  The Form Letter Outline offered below can guide you in that.  Many thanks to LotS.org poster GV2811 for your lending your expertise to help shape these letters.  

Form Letter - Basic Outline

Dear [Station/Person you are contacting]

Introduce yourself.  Who are you and where are you from?  How old are you?  What is your background? 

Tell them a little about Legend of the Seeker.  Share your opinion of the show with them here.  How has the moral of Legend of the Seeker enhanced your life?  In what ways have you benefited or changed as a person because of the characters and their stories?

How can Legend of the Seeker be improved?  What things don't you like?  Try to give an example or two of things that, if changed, would help bring in more viewers. 

Mention something about our campaign efforts.  The Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter ads, the support of New York Times best-selling author Terry Goodkind, and a link to http://www.saveourseeker.com/ are all excellent things to include. 

Lastly, don't forget to invite them to consider providing Legend of the Seeker with a new home.  Tell them that, if they would be interested in hearing a pitch for Legend of the Seeker by ABC-Disney, they can get in touch with the campaign at saveourseekerpledge@gmail.com, or of course contact ABC-Disney directly. 

And don't forget to thank them for their time!


Those of you who would like the help of a more structured form letter, feel free to make use of one of these, but be sure to include your own personal touch.  We do not want to send out an identical message again and again.  Doing so could constitute a DOS attack, and will often cause messages to be automatically filtered out as spam.

Form Letter #1

Dear [Station/Person you are contacting],

I'm contacting you as a fan of the first-run syndication show Legend of the Seeker, produced by ABC-Disney.  I am from [where you live] and I [tell them something about who you are and your background].  I love Legend of the Seeker because [please fangirl (or boy) here for a sentence or two about why the show is awesome to you.]  This great show has influenced my life because [say how Legend of the Seeker has changed something about you for the better.  Are you strong like Kahlan now?  Do you take responsibility like Richard does or understand feelings now because of Cara?]

Because Legend of the Seeker has so much potential, we fans are campaigning to support it in its quest for a new home.  To date, we have placed ads in both Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter in support of the show, and are now teaming up with New York Times best-selling author Terry Goodkind, creator of the book series on which Legend of the Seeker is based, to donate DVDs of Season One to grateful libraries around the country (http://www.saveourseeker.com/).

As the next step in ensuring the continuation of Legend of the Seeker for many more years to come, we fans would like to invite you to pledge your willingness to listen to a pitch by ABC-Disney about Legend of the Seeker.  If you would be interested in listening to such a pitch, please contact the fans at saveourseekerpledge@gmail.com, or get in touch with ABC-Disney directly.

Form Letter #2

Dear [Station/Person you are contacting],

I'm a TV viewer from [where you live] and a fan of Legend of the Seeker, a first run syndication show produced by ABC-Disney.  Legend of the Seeker is an amazing fantasy-adventure series that appeals not only to genre fans, but to mainstream viewers as well.  The acting and production quality are outstanding, and each new episode has me on the edge of my seat!  My favorite episode this season was [Episode Title] because [put what happened that you thought was particularly epic here.]

This gem of a show is currently looking for a new home.  It has suffered in the past from next to no advertising and inconsistent airtimes, but despite this, Legend of the Seeker has garnered a dedicated following through the power of word of mouth.  Legend of the Seeker could be made even better if you [What would you like done for LotS to help it gain more viewers?]  We fans, and hopefully your soon to be loyal viewers, are joining Legend of the Seeker in its quest for a new home.  Our campaign efforts can be easily accessed through http://www.saveourseeker.com/, including information on the fan-funded advertisements that we have run in Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter in support of our show, as well as our current fundraiser with New York Times best-selling author Terry Goodkind, and much more.

A Reminder: As you go to send out your emails, please remember that these are people and businesses with important things to do each day, and while we want to share our love and enthusiasm for Legend of the Seeker with them, we also want to be respectful of their actual daily obligations.  Please, do not spam them.  Do not use multiple email accounts.  We want every voice to be heard, but we do not want to stuff their inboxes and overwhelm their servers with spam.  This would not help us at all in accomplishing our goal. 

If you have the option, use an email account that marks you as a person.  By this I mean an account through your school, work or organization you belong to instead of a free online email account such as hotmail or yahoo.  Please, please make sure that whatever message you send is unique to you.  If you are having trouble writing such a letter, please get in touch with either myself or visionhale.

NBC was included because it's the parent company of USA Network. Jace, who has a good deal of inside knowledge, suggested to us, "Don't stop at just the specific cable channel back track to it parent company as well." So that was the idea there with NBC. I spent all day thinking about the addresses in this post, so there's reasoning behind each one that I didn't post to try and keep the whole thing from suffering from tl;dr.

Excellent setup. Easy to use and to the point. You have your idea. You now have the means with which to spread it far and wide. Now let others know of this by any means at your disposal.

Then on the targeted day UNITE as a Seeker fanbase on a worldwide scale!

UNITE as you did and are still doing on Twitter to successfully achieve your trending campaigns. UNITE as you did when you donated nearly $10,000 dollars in two weeks (now up to $12,000 dollars) for your successful ad campaign.

Now UNITE once again for this purpose and on each selected day let those who can bring about a 3rd season of Legend of the Seeker hear your message in one collective voice that they cannot ignore. By doing this you can create your own chance to achieve a miracle for this show and bring it back from the dead or to put in Seeker terminology give it your own personal "breath of life".

With that said good luck on this worthy endeavor for Seeker fans one and all.

Will definitely participate in this, but is it possible that if we flood them with the exact same mail during a short span of time (assuming most people use the template) they'll think it's some sort of bot/spam/whatever? D: IDK I'm just paranoid about that. I think everyone should probably add their own personal line somewhere just to proof that we're a bunch of different people. Of course since these letters are being sent to different people, we can then just copy/paste our personalized letter to the other stations.

Good questions. We've expanded the time of the flood so that it's now from 8am EST to 12 Midnight EST to hopefully prevent the appearance of it being a bot, and to make it easier for people to join in.

As for people using the same template, yeah, I'd love it if everyone could take the time to put a personal twist on the letter or even write their own, but I'd rather people send in the form letter than nothing at all. Something that will help with appearing less like spam is if people use email accounts that establish them as actual people. If you have an address through your school or your work or an organization you belong to, please use that instead of a free internet account. I can make as many accounts on hotmail as I want, but my college only lets me have one account, so, if you have more than one email, go with the account that makes you seem least like a bot!

Perhaps I can create a custom LotS card, insert your pre-worded text (thank you for that, too! :D) and I even get the info if the card has been opened. Hach, s/t I love technology. Save our Seeker!
